House St.-Jürgen-Straße 51

The construction boom of the late 19th century also included Jürgensby. Built as a residential building with a shop, building no. 51 dates from 1884. Structurally the street beveled corner attracts attention - a building code of the time: The "Berliner Corner" is a building method developed in Berlin at the time: Block ends at intersections (also: St.-Jürgen-Straße no. 1 and 4). Most of the corners were entrances to shops or pubs.

In the house No. 51 was from the beginning a small grocery store. In 1927, the store was struck a room and installed the large windows. In addition to this shop there were other small shops at that time: bakers (No. 9), butcher (No. 58-60), further dealer (house Altona no. 69) and the fish smokehouse Ravn (no. 55).

Family Trahn bought the house in 1965. There was almost everything to buy, from food to drinks to household goods. In 1996, the business was closed. Many former shops were converted into apartments. The house No. 51 became a house of art. At first a gallery showed pictures of artists of the artists' colony Ekensund (Flensburg fjord). Since 2008, the studio of the visual artist and author Hanako C. Hahne has been located here.
